First Blog Post Ever (well, mine anyway)

This is it. My first venture into the world of blogging. This is spectacular, amazing, a modern miracle... wait, who am I kidding? I'm just another guy on the web publishing my ramblings about my little world.

Basically, I'm just a guy trying to show off his work as a photographer. I hope to someday be semi-famous or at least fairly financially rewarded for my work. I'm really just starting out in photography with only about 2 or 3 years behind a camera. I primarily shoot landscapes and nature because it's something else I enjoy. Lately, I've just been like a sponge when it comes to photography. I'm always reading up on the topic, searching the web for new ideas, other photographers, equipment, or pretty much anything related to photography.

The images I have mustered the nerve to actually try and sell are posted on my photo site, http://kpepin.zenfolio.com/. I have to be my own worst critic, but feel free to prove me wrong and critique my work. I encourage ALL feedback. If you think an image just plain sucks, let me know. I would hope that if you do, you at least tell me why you think so. Oh, and if, you really bash my stuff, at least have the guts to leave a name and maybe examples of similar work that you think is "the right way" to do it. On the other hand, if you like my work, just buy as many prints as your credit card can hold! Just kidding... sort of.

Seriously, good or bad, I really would like to hear what anyone has to say about work. The best way to improve (other than practice) is to listen to as many ideas as possible.

Back in 2006, I bought my first DSLR camera. It had a bunch of buttons and dials, I could change lenses, zoom in and out... It was awesome! Just put it in Auto mode, use the pop-up flash, and you get some of the ugliest photos ever! "I must have a bad camera!" I kept thinking to myself. The manual is still in the box... maybe I should read it... nah! Click, click, click. Yeah, this must be how they are supposed to look. I can't be doing anything wrong!

Needless to say, I went online and looked for some books on digital photography. I found "The Digital Photography Book" by Scott Kelby and thought, "This is perfect! It's small, full of pictures, not a lot words... my kind of book!" Can you believe that son of a gun actually crammed a ton of useful information into that tiny book!? That was it for me, the book said, "Try This" and I did... the photo looked pretty good. What else in in here? I just had a bunch of "Ah ha" moments and just kept trying different things. The photos just kept getting better. Mr. Kelby has been inspiring me since I started. I am now a Proud Member of NAPP and continue to learn new things every day.

Let me know what you think of my images, or my blog and I hope to make this a fairly regular thing.

I would like to just close this first ever, totally awesome, super informative blog by saying thank's to my family for all the encouragement and support. A special thanks to my best friend, shooting partner, and girlfrind Jenny for putting up with all my crap and time behind the computer learning my new craft. I love you.
